Tightly contested Super League second round resumes

The evenly contested Ethiopian Super League second edition second round fixtures resume next Saturday. The championship will be climax with three teams being promoted to the upper tier while four sides will be relegated to the National League.

With ten wins, two draws and three defeats, Welwalo-Adigrat University is on top of Group “A” with 32 points from 15 matches while regional rival Mekele Town sits second a point down. Welwalo and Mekele both have seasoned Coaches (Berhane G/Egziabher and Getachew Dawit) respectively and their squads are full of experienced players they are hot favorites to go up the ladder at the end of the season.

Nine points behind the leaders Baherdar Town and ShereEndeselassie are third and fourth each with twenty three points but goal differences. Though  there are 15 matches to go in to the second round, catching up with the runaway leaders appears a high hill to mount. Premier League former popular side Ethiopia Medin is 5th in the table with 21 points thus soccer fans’ dream of having the Blues back next season is unlikely.

Group “B” is the tighter one for the first six sides have almost the same chance of winning the table. Hard to beat in its home ground Jimma Aba Bunna has the driving seat with 26 points followed by Halaba Town two down. Each with same 23 points, Wolkite Town and last season relegated side Hadya-Hossana are third and fourth in goal differences.  Shashemene Town and Debub Police each have 22 points but fifth and sixth for goal difference.

Automatic promotion for the group winners while the runner-ups  to test their muscle in a one off  play-off match with the winner to join the other two in the Premier League.
