With Ethiopia Bunna and Adama Town settling for unexpected home draws against Jimma AbaBuna and Ethiopia NegedBank respectively the Premier League title contention now features three sides: Saint George, Sidama Bunna and Dedebit. Today’s away showdown against relegation threatened Jimma AbaBuna is expected to be a must win matter for head coach Martinus Nooij. They will also play in the CAF Champions League group stage next week.
Sidama Bunna is playing well, but, the defending champion Saint George is in the best position to retain the title for a record consecutive fourth season. They are three points clear in the standings and have a game a hand. Their remaining games are against bad teams, Jimma AbaBuna, Electric, Addis Ababa Town, Ethiopia NegedBank and Fasil Town, It is for Saint George to lose the title rather than Sidama and Dedebit to wrestle it out of its grip.
If third place with four points down from the leaders Dedebit loses the much expected home match against a rejuvenated Fasil Town today, it means the end of its second ever title dream. It sure is going to be a tough showdown for the visitors under an inspiring new boss Mentesenot Getu. Relegation threatened Ethio-Electric is also in a “do or die” situation facing popular side Ethiopia Bunna today. Twelfth in the table with 28 points Electric is said to have a much better squad than many. A defeat to Electric means doomsday is coming closer.
In the other matches today Arbaminch Town entertains Adama Town while Woldya Town travels to Southern Ethiopia to face home side Hawassa Town.
