Saint George four-peats, Addis Ababa down and out


Ethiopian number one football club Saint George retained the Premier League title for the fourth season in a row while. Addis Ababa has been relegated and eight teams are in danger of joining them.

Adana Girma’s first half breath taking header sealed their record 14th championship.  “We are now fully focused on the international fixtures,” remarked assistant Fasil Tekalegn.

Dedebit FC could have pushed the title contention further had it not been beaten by home side Adama. Thanks to Dawa Hutesa they now have 47 points 18 points behind the champions.

Diredawa beat Hawassa 1-0 to jump to 11th with 31 points. Wolayta Dicha and Ethio-Electric lost their matches to Ethiopia NegedBank and Saint George respectively and face relegation. Eight teams including Woldya and Hawassa each with 34 points are in danger of jointing Addis Ababa. The fate of Arbaminch (33), Diredawa (31), Wolayta Dicha (30), Electric and Jimma Ababuna each with 29 and Ethiopia NegedBank (28) are  to be decided in the remaining two fixtures.
