Ethiopian national team and Ethiopia Bunna player Gatoch Panom became the first ever Ethiopian Footballer to join a European top tier side. The giant midfielder signed a three year contract agreement with the Russian outfit Anzhi Makachakla.
The transfer agreement is said to be the fastest for it just took five days in which Gatoch scored one goal to convince the Anzhi top guns. The transfer is more than a player just moving to another club it could help other Ethiopian footballers play for European clubs. Gatoch carries a huge burden of proving himself to Anzhi and sending a positive message for Ethiopian football.
Gatoch is set to earn 5,000 Euro a month and that is a small income compared with many European based players. The 23 year old midfielder was earning nearly 4,000 Euro while skipping The Brown Shirts.
Six seasons and one premier league title to his name the Ethiopia Bunna skipper scored eight goals this season and by all means his departure is a huge setback for Serbian head coach Dragan Popadic who returned to Ethiopia Bunna for his second spell.
Joining Anzhi that boasts a 45,000-seat stadium and an under 50 year-old head coach Aleksandr Grigoryan, Gatoch brings Ethiopian professional footballers playing on foreign lands to three with Shimeles Bekele and Oumed Oukri playing to Egyptian sides Petro Jet and Entag-El-Harby respectively.
