The long held 24 goal record held by former Electric, Ethiopia Bunna and Ethiopian national team striker Yordanos Abay came to an end when Getaneh Kebede scored a goal on the last day of the season against Wolayta Dicha. “I congratulate Getaneh for setting a new record and I hope this will inspire others,” Yordanos told reporters.
Back from six season’s in South Africa he scored five goals in the first two games of the season and scored twice on the last day, scoring 25 goals in total. Were it not for the team’s struggles, some speculate he could have scored more.
Of course the 24 goals scored by Yordanos, there were only 22 matches and 10 teams. Yordanos scored an average of 1.09 goals per game while Getaneh managed 0.83 goals per game therefore the Diredawa born goal hunter still stands tall.
Getaneh’s 25 goals helped Dedebit finish runner-up eleven points behind the champions. Salhadin Said, for Saint George, stood second with 15 goals while Hawassa’s Jaco Arafat and veteran Adane Girma shared the third spot each with 12 goals. Despite struggling for relegation, Ethio-Electric’s Fitsum G/Mariam managed to score an impressive 11 goals.
