The Ethiopian Shipping and Logistics Services Enterprise (ESLSE) and the Ethiopian Freight Forwarders and Shipping Agents Association (EFFSAA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to work jointly to empower professionals in the logistics sector.
“The MoU signed with the association is part of the plan to improve the logistics sector,”Roba Megerssa, CEO of ESLSE, said.
“The sector has a scarcity of skilled manpower so this partnership is crucial to improve logistics,” the CEO who was recently appointed to the post explained.
International economic evaluators have usually pointed to logistics as an area that needs improvement for the economy to improve.
Roba said that the MoU has wide ranging cooperation with the association.
One of the deals in the MoU will be the training with the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Associations (FIATA).
ESLSE has already finalized the construction of Babogaya Maritime and Logistics Center, which will be a training facility for the sector.
“The FIATA international trainers’ certificate is a good opportunity for us since we have a plan to provide training for Ethiopians who want to work in logistics,” Roba said.
Salahadin Khalifa, head of the Association, said that FIATA’s advisory board has provided vocational training for Ethiopian trainers’ six years ago and since then EFFSAA provide various training for Ethiopians. “We have prepared 14 moguls to give an internationally recognized FIATA diploma at Babogaya since we got accreditation from FIATA,” Salahadin said.
