Amity Foundation, a Chinese NGO, started a 16 million birr drought relief project called “Living Water” to improve access to water and hygiene while providing disaster assistance to people suffering the effects of drought.
The target communities are the worst hit areas, Woredas of Harshin and Keberibeyah, Fafan Zone, in Somali Regional State. A total of 7,409 households (48,900 people) will be supplied with safe drinking water, purification materials and hygiene kits. Five liters of water per person per day will be provided for 2 months.
Counselor Lin Zhimin, from the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Ethiopia said “ As far as I know it is the biggest single project of its’ kind run by a Chinese NGO in Africa. This is a vivid demonstration of the friendship between Ethiopia and China.’’
