Sport news headlines are not only dominated by men’s footballer’s transfer saga but as of this week also by women players on the move. Defending champion Dedebit FC and third in the league table Adama are actively participating in the market while runner-up Ethiopia NegedBank stayed away from the transfer campaign.
Leading Dedebit to the Women’s league championship title in his very first season head coach Getu Teshome made an ideal move by signing three key players; upcoming striker a product of Trunesh Dibaba Sport Academy and last season’s success story with Diredawa Tideg Fiseha to pair with renowned goal machine Losa Aberra, another Trunesh Academy graduate in her last season with Addis Ababa Selam Laake a central defender to blend with Zebib HabteSelassie and an experienced versatile wing back Esegenet Bezuneh from rival Ethiopia NegedBank. Though the amount of the money is not official, sources disclosed that each could pocket a six digit signing bonus for two year contract.
The other side busy in the market is last season’s Ethiopian Women League surprise package Adama. Finishing third behind the heavy weights Dedebit and Ethiopia NegedBank, Adama appeared determined to become a serious title contender so they signed five players from TruneshDibaba Sport Academy. They also extended contracts to strikers Dinkenesh Bekele, Yetagesu Teklework and defender Zenabue Shiferaw while signing midfielder Tsion Haile from Hawassa and wing player Serkalem Guta from Teret.
