Ethiopian international striker Oumed Oukri joined Egyptian side Smouha SC in a free transfer following his contract termination with El-Entag El- Harby while center-back Walid Ata returned to Saudi Football after a four month loan to Norwegian side Sogndal Football.
Oumed, the former Mekelakya and Saint George striker, who is 26 years old, had been under the radar of Egyptian League heavy weights following his successful 2017 season with El-Entag. However, he signed a three year contract with Alexandria based Smouha, which finished 5th with 57 points in the 18 team Egyptian league. Following his contract expiry with El-Entag he joined Smouha nick named the Blue Wave in a free transfer and is expected to pocket a significant signing bonus. The fast forward striker also famous for his long volley who finished third in the Egyptian League top scorer’s list with 12 goals is now among the five foreign players on the squad: two from Burkinabe, a Serbian and a mid-fielder from Ivory Coast. Just six seasons in the upper tier, Smouha is owned by millionaire and Parliament member Mohamed Farag Amer.
In other news, Ethiopian national team central defender Walid Ata is back to Saudi Arabia to join first division side Najran Sc. Though Najran’s effort to make it into the Professional League failed last season, the club is now on a mission of mounting a strong comeback, thus signing new players’ for the new season. The 31 year old defender who had served the Waliya-Antelope under former national head coach Sewnet Bishaw is expected to be back into form before the start of the new season.
