Tewodros Desta appointed Women U-20 national boss

Three days in to his new appointment as Ethiopian Women’s U-20 national team boss Tewodros Desta announced a 31 player preliminary squad short list, dominated by players from his old club, in preparation for the 2018 U-20 Women’s world cup final to be held in France.
He has gone to Diredawa to kick off his preparation. Less than one month ahead of the huge first leg home clash against Kenya, the quiet yet humble pioneers of Women’s football in Ethiopia Tewodros appears confident they can make it to the next qualification phase. “Of course we know Kenya started preparation earlier and have some friendly matches. But with sheer determination and hard work I am sure things will turn out in our favour,” Tewodros remarked.
What is amazing is that there is not one player from champions Dedebit and runner-up Ethiopia Neged Bank while six players were selected from young side Ethio-Electric. Five players from knock-out champions Hawassa, four from Adama, three each from Mekelakya, Saint George and Arbaminch, while Gedeo Dilla, Addis Ababa and Sidama Coffee are each represented by a single player. The absence of any player from the heavy weights means that both sides are not working on producing young upcoming talents which is a heavy set back to Ethiopian women’s football.
With the first leg home match taking place on 17th September in Diredawa, the return match will be held in Nairobi a fortnight later and the aggregate winner go through the final qualification stage to face African giants Nigerian falcons in a two leg showdown.
