With a view to further strengthening cultural exchanges, encouraging different civilizations to learn from each other, promoting mutual understanding, harmony, friendship and people-to-people bonds with Ethiopia, as well as exposing Ethiopians with China’s culture and traditions, the Embassy of China in Ethiopia will host China Culture Week in Addis Ababa to celebrate the 68th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China which falls on Oct.1, 2017. There will be a gala performance by a performing troupe from Guangdong Province, China in the National Theatre, Addis Ababa, at 18:00 on September 23, 2017.
A China Film Festival will be held from September 25 to October 1, six films will be presented in Edna Mall Cinema, Addis Ababa. Then National Day Reception and Photo Exhibition in Sheraton Hotel will be held on September 26, 2017.
This cultural exchange performance in Africa will be carried out by Huizhou City Musical Mission, representing the Art Ensemble of Guangdong Province, People’s Republic of China. For years, Huizhou City Musical Mission has conducted rich art performances and created many excellent and influential plays. The drama Alarm Bell has won the Cao Yu Theater Award and the “Five-One Projects” in the spiritual civilization of Guangdong Province, with over 100 performances and over one million RMB yuan box office.
Other performances such as drama Village Official, children’s musical The Ugly Duckling, opera The Story of Ever-lasting East River, musical Love and Gourd Flute, musical The Legend of the Ocean Prince have also won various awards in many professional competitions held in Guangdong Province. Huizhou City Musical Mission also owns the intellectual property of a serious of fantastic songs and dances: The Wine Lady, Rhythm of Water, Empty Nest, Moonlight on the Creek, The Oriental Beauty, Rhythm of Lake, Casting, Love Song of the East River and My Home on the East River Bank.
As an artistic envoy of cultural exchanges from Guangdong Province, Huizhou City Musical Mission has performed in countries and regions like Germany, the USA, the UK, France, Singapore, South Korea, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan, where it received praises from all walks of life with good artistic knowledge and stunning performances. In January 2017, it was awarded Top 10 Art Ensembles in Guangdong Province.
Recent years has witnessed rapid growth of China’s film industry, robust vitality of its film production and great improvements of its film quality. In order to tell the China Story well, Chinese films have vigorously promoted international communication and contributed to the “Belt and Road” Initiatives.
With the purpose of letting the world know Chinese Dream, China Story, China’s voice and China’s mainstream value, China Film Exhibition in Africa, supported by Film Bureau of the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of the People’s Republic of China, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Madagascar, Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Zimbabwe and Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia and promoted by China Film Group Corporation, will open in September 2017 in Madagascar, Zimbabwe and Ethiopia, at which Chinese films will be presented to friends from all over the world.
China Film Group Corporation has carefully selected six films, which show great improvements of Chinese film production and cinematic techniques, for the film exhibition in Africa, including The Ghouls, My Lucky Star, Flying Swords of Dragon Gate, The Taking of Tiger Mountain, Monkey King: Hero Is Back and Who Am I?
Through the film exhibition, local audiences will learn more about Chinese traditional cultures, modern society and Chinese people’s inner lives, and the six well-selected films are expected to play irreplaceable and active roles in strengthening dialogues among different countries, nations, and cultures.
Under the framework of the “Belt and Road” Initiatives, China and Africa have made all-round and in-depth cooperation in many fields, such as humanities and art, and Chinese filmmakers would like to make joint efforts with their African counterparts for the promotion of the development and diversity of global films.
