Ethiopian U-20 Women side in a “Mission Impossible” return leg in Kenya

Ethiopian U-20 national Women team threw away a first half two goal advantage to settle for a 2-2 home draw at Hawassa International Stadium. The decisive return leg takes place on 2ndOctober 2017 in Kenya-Nairobi.
Despite a three week, preparation many sport fans suggested that head coach Theodros Desta had done a super job building a fresh faced, strong squad. Fully dominating the first half Ethiopia took the lead through Merkat Feleke’s marvellous goal 19 minutes in the first half and then doubled the home advantage thanks to Alemnesh Girmew’s astonishing volley from 25 meters. Though the visitors geared up to a high ball come back, the home side stood strong until the whistle.
Back to the second half Ethiopia had a chance to double the lead. Goalie Lilian Auwor denied Alemnesh’s long volleyed effort while Snaf Wakuma and Merkat missed hard to believe chances. The visitors stayed in high gear while the home girls felt the fatigue followed by a lapse of focus. Just a minute from regular time Aquino scored the life line from a spot kick due to Kidst’s foul in the penalty box. Excitement turned to worry and no one among the fresh faced home players to keep nerve, the visitor’s volley went past goalie Tigist Abera in the stoppage time thus the final score line a hard to believe heart breaking 2-2 draw.
The result means long in preparation Kenyans have the home advantage in the return leg. But with what our Girls featured in their first ever international, going past this qualification is not yet finished, rather in demand of a strong mentality from Theodros and his squad in Machakos next Sunday.
