Former Ethiopia Bunna and Ethiopia Medin head coach Berhane G/Egziabher is back to the Premier League football after long absence from the public. Steering Welwalo-Adigrat in to the top tier the humble and friendly Berhane is currently busy in a strong squad build-up signing more than a dozen new faces including three players from Ghana.
Helping Welwalo to its first ever Premier League appearance finishing runner-up in last season Super League championship, experienced head coach Berhane faced huge challenges: building a strong squad capable of achieving his first priority agenda maintaining a place in the upper league and staying as the number one side of Tigray showing upper hands on its cross town rival Mekele.
With strong home supporters also famous for traveling with the team, Welwalo already extended the contract of seven senior players while convincing big names, former Ethiopia Bunna and Ethio Electric striker Mulualem Tilahun and full back Robel Girma. The other new faces in the team are former Ethio-Electric central defender Bereket Tesema and mid fielder Beruk Ayele: midfielder Wegderes Ayele from Dedebit, striker Binyam Ayele from Adama, Eyob W/Mariam from Amara Waterworks and defender Tesfaye Dibaba from Diredawa.
Welawalo has also signed its share of foreign players all from Ghana. Abdurahman Fasuni, Atiya Samuel and Fredrick Boateng are the three players from the West African nation Ghana but according to unofficial sources two foreign players are to join soon. With some plan to take part in one of the two City Cups: Addis Ababa or Hawassa, Welwalo kicked off its preseason in Mekele since August.
