Mekele’s Getachew sacked while Mekelakya’s Menyamer promoted

Newly promoted to Ethiopian Premier League, MekeleKetema, sacked Getachew Dawit from his hard earned head coach position just six weeks into the new season kick-off. Meanwhile, the hardly participating in the ongoing Ethiopian footballers’ transfer market, Mekelakya appointed MenyamerTsegaye to the hot seat.
Signing more than a dozen players including three foreigners, the former Dedebit and WelwaloAdigrat coach GetachewDawit who led MekeleKetema to premier league promotion just in his first season with the team was never expected to get the boot from behind at the time when the team’s preseason is almost to come to an end and the new season soon to kick-off. Nevertheless according to media sources Getachew got the marching order from the club for declining a friendly match against cross town rival WelwaloAdigrat to mark one of the most popular holydays in Ethiopia, Meskel. Former assistant to Getachew, Goitom Haile, is now care taker coach until further notice. Critics got shocked about the development since it might jeopardize the club’s future at the upper tier. “If a new coach is appointed now, could he take full responsibility for whatever happens at the end of the season?” asked a former coach.
In the meantime, admired for its stance in declining to bring in foreign players to the squad, The Army side appointed MenyamerTsegaye as head coach. Menyamer former assistant with Mekelakya is now in a preseason build up at DebreZeit,45 Kilometer from the capital. Likely to be the only premier league side with no foreign players, Menyamer is confident in building a competent team out of home grown boys. The oldest club in the country, Mekelakya is getting popular for this very fact and is getting ready for Addis Ababa City Cup 12thedition kicking-off today.
