Agrilevante 2017, the fifth edition of a biannual trade fair of machines and technologies for agriculture, officially opened on October 12 at Bari, Italy. Leonardo Di Gioia, Regional Councilor for Agriculture together with Extraordinary Commissioner of the Levante Fair, Antonella Bisceglia, and the CEO of FederUnacoma surl, Massimo Goldoni opened the fair that runs through today, Sunday, October 15.
Specialized companies such as Deere and Company, Massey Ferguson, Ferrari, Lamborghini were among other 320 companies, from 21 countries that showcased their products ranging from heavy duty tractors to pocket knives. Official delegations from 40 countries including Ethiopia were also in attendance to view the products.
Despite the downturn in tractor sales in almost all major farming countries in 2016, farm machinery officials has seen new growth in the market of Ethiopia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Cambodia within the same year. However, the global agricultural machinery market is showing an outstanding transformation. Data from January through September shows a 31 percent climb for tractor sales globally.
“Focus” on Africa
An international seminar dedicated to agricultural machinery and technologies was also held under the theme “Agricultural Economy and Political Stability: A Challenge for Agriculture in Africa and the Mediterranean”. The meeting focused on policy strategies, financial mechanisms and technologies that can help the development of the agricultural economy in African territories.
The development of the agricultural economy of the Mediterranean and Africa are at the center for the fifth edition of Agrilevante, organized by FederUnacoma in collaboration with the Trade Fair of the Levante and the Department of Agriculture of the Apulia Region.
Representatives of various government institutions, agricultural and economic operators attended the event which is said to be an opportunity to reflect on technical aspect of farming.
