African Champions League leading top scorer Ethiopian Salhadin Said is among the 30 players short listed for 2017 African Player of the Year Based in Africa Award. It is four years since an Ethiopian duo Adane Girma and Getaneh Kebede graced the coveted list. Liverpool and Egypt international Mohammed Salah is an early favorite for 2017 African Player of the Year Award while Leicester and Algerian international and incumbent holder of the crown Riyad Mahrez is the major absence in the list.
Playing major role in Kidus Giorgis’ back to back Premier League title and spear heading them to historic African Champions’ League group stage Benshangul born Salhadin Said has joined the exclusive party for his amazing season at international stages. Seven international goals to his name Salhadin is joint in leading the top scorer’s list
with Champions League cup finalist Waydad Casablanca’s Achraf Bencherki.
In the African Player of the Year list, wherein Mohammed Salah, the hottest favorite crown ,appears strong contenders the likes of Senegal and Liverpool golden boy Sadio Mane, Chelsea winger Nigerian Victor Moses, Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang of Gabon and Borrussia Dortmund.
Only four players namely Ali Maaloul, Denis Onyango, Percy Tau and Fackson Kapumbu, are having a stint in the continent, made it to both African Player of the Year and African Player of the Year – Based in Africa categories. Winners will be decided by votes from the Head Coaches/Technical Directors of the National Associations affiliated to CAF, members of the CAF Technical and Development Committee and a panel of Media Experts.
