Court acquits Teddy Afro

By Tedla Yeneakal

The young talented vocalist, songwriter and producer Tewodros Kassahun alias Teddy Afro, who was accused of a hit- run last week have been set free after the prosecution dropped the charge against him in a court hearing at the Federal First Instance Court on Wednesday, November 8.

Last week, Teddy Afro's alleged crime was highly talked about in the city as many people argued about the accuracy of his accusation of killing a person near the Sheraton Hotel and running away in his BMW late in the evening of Thursday, November 2.

Teddy appeared before the Federal First Instance Court on Wednesday with his lawyer, ready to defend himself, however the prosecution told the court that it has completely dropped the charges.

“It is very sad that some members of the media reported as if they are certain that I committed a crime,” Teddy was quoted as saying, “I might consider taking legal action for defamation.”

On Friday, November 3, last week, Teddy pleaded not guilty on the allegations in court and was re-adjourned for this week Wednesday giving police time for further investigation but no evidence was found implicating him.

After being in custody for about 24 hours, Teddy was released on 50,000 birr bail.

Teddy returned recently from a ten-month long international tour, hosting concerts, in the USA , Europe and The Middle East.
