Ethiopian Football Federation announces a new salary increment for national teams at all levels. Sewnet Bishaw becomes the highest ever paid Ethiopian football coachs. Club coaches’ wage once again is likely to rise following the federations sizable increment.
The latest salary increment makes Sewnet the highest paid national team coach in Ethiopian football history after 13,000 Birr increment making the total to 30,000 Birr while his assistant Seyoum Kebede’s salary goes up to 20,000 Birr after 5,000 Birr increment. Former national team goal keeper currently goal keepers coach Kitaw Mulu collects a four thousand Birr increment to take home a total 7,000 Birr. According to EFF’s brief statement the increment is due to the recent results the national teams both men’s and women’s achieved at international fixtures. Two wins and a draw in three consecutive international encounters for the men’s side and a Nation’s cup final qualification for the women’s side, the increment is said timely and in recognition of the nation’s football development.
Lucy’s head coach, Abraham T/Haimanot’s salary soared up to 25,000 Birr that is a 10,000 Birr increment while his second in command Birhanu Gizaw to take home 10,000 Birr. National team and Ethiopian Coffee long time physio Yisak Shiferaw’s salary increased by 4,000 to his new earning 7,000 Birr and his counterpart Genet Teshome gets a 2,500 Birr increment to add for 3500 Birr monthly salary. Though many critics applaud for the long overdue salary increment they have doubts it might trigger a new wave of increment among club coaches. “Club coaching is season long full time job while national team coaching is not a season long permanent job” Critics’ argue. Currently club coaches’ highest salary stands at 20,000 Birr monthly salary.
