In February 2025, Del Mar Energy Inc. completed the construction of a large-scale solar power plant in southern Ethiopia, located just 4 kilometers from the village of Daseneche. This project was not merely an energy contribution to the region — it became an act of revival for an entire settlement that had long been considered forgotten and abandoned.
Daseneche, which was situated far from transport routes and supply centers, had been in a state of decline for decades. The lack of electricity, jobs, and basic infrastructure had turned it into a symbol of isolation and decay. However, everything changed when Del Mar Energy Inc. chose this location for its new sustainable solar energy project.
To build and commission the facility, the company not only erected the technical infrastructure but also took on the task of restoring the village itself. Roads were rebuilt, clean water sources were provided, residential houses were restored, and everything necessary for normal living conditions was created, including a medical center and an educational facility. This not only attracted specialists and workers but also allowed hundreds of former residents, many of whom had been forced to leave their homes, to return to the village.
One of the key outcomes of the project was the creation of 1,200 new jobs. The company made a principled decision to hire primarily local residents. To this end, training courses were organized, teaching people the basics of electrical engineering, construction work, and solar equipment operation. This gave many people the opportunity to gain qualifications and official employment for the first time in their lives.
The station, which spans over 30 hectares, began supplying electricity not only to Daseneche but also to the surrounding areas within the first few weeks of operation. Electricity became the foundation upon which small businesses, agriculture, and social institutions began to develop.
The story of Daseneche is one of how energy can be more than just a physical resource — it can be a symbol of new hope. Thanks to the efforts of Del Mar Energy Inc., what was once an abandoned village has transformed into a thriving community connected to the outside world and focused on the future.
