Leading goal scorers on vacation during second round

Share

The goal drought in the Ethiopian Premier League has returned. Except for Mekele 70-Enderta’s Amanuel G/Kidan, the leading goal scorers, have only scored on goal since the second round kicked-off. After five matches, there were 72 goals compared with same period during the first round that saw 75 goals.
It is amazing that the leading goal scorers are stranded where they stopped at the end of the first round. Some the likes of Hawassa play maker Tafesse Solomon and Adama’s lone goal machine Dawa Hutesa have eight goals. Yet, for two months each has seldom found the back of the net. It is hard to understand why. Maybe they are on vacation or fasting from scoring goals.
Leading goal scorer Amanuel G/Kidan grabbed Mekele’s winning goal against visitors Wolayta Dicha after a five game layoff. Amanmuel is leading the chart with twelve goals followed by Makelakeya’s one man strike force Menyelu Wondemu with eleven. However, he has not scored in 6 games. It may be because of Menyelu’s absence that Mekelakeya has dived into relegation zone followed by Coach Seyoum Kebede’s sacking. It is hard to understand how a striker from relegation threatened Mekelakeya managed to be among top scorers.
Sidama Bunna’s lone target man Addis Gedey appears to have lost the goal direction for he managed no goal in the past seven matches despite the team’s progress to second place. The only player that has made it to the top five leading scorers’ chart since the second round is Debub Police’s Henok Ayele who managed to sit fourth with nine goals bagging three goals since the start of the second round.
Though numbers of foreign strikers are crowding the stage, AbaJifar’s Mamadou Sidebe is the only one to make it into the top ten leading scorers’ list
