CBE transacts 5.3 trillion Birr through digital channels in last six months

The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) has announced that it has transacted 5.3 trillion Birr through its digital services in the first half of the current fiscal year.

The bank reported that 79 percent of its money transfer transactions are now carried out through digital platforms.

Digital banking enables customers to access banking services conveniently through mobile phones and cards, eliminating the need for physical branch visits.

Director of Merchant and Agent Management at CBE’s Digital Banking Division, Bilen Hailemichael highlighted the bank’s significant digital footprint.

CBE has 30 million CBE Birr users and 9 million mobile banking users. Additionally, the bank boasts 21 million cardholders and over 4,000 businesses utilizing Point-of-Sale (POS) terminals, he underscored.

As part of this expansion, the bank’s digital marketing initiatives have grown alongside its digital services; he stated adding that 910 million transactions have been carried out in the past six months of the current fiscal year. (FMC)
