Cultural Harmony: Armenia and Hungary unite through music in Addis Ababa

On May 14, the Saint George Armenian Apostolic Church in Addis Ababa became a vibrant hub for cultural exchange as the Embassy of Armenia in Ethiopia and the Embassy of Hungary co-hosted a captivating concert of classical and spiritual music. The event showcased the talents of Armenian soprano Hasmik Harutyunyan and renowned Hungarian composer and organist Márton Levente Horváth, who delivered a powerful performance featuring works by celebrated composers such as Komitas, Yerkmalyan, Kanachyan, Bach, and others.

Ambassador Sahak Sargsyan emphasized the significance of this collaboration, noting the deep-rooted connections between Armenia and Hungary. He remarked on the symbolic nature of their gathering in Ethiopia, a nation that shares rich cultural and religious ties with both countries. “Through music and the arts, we are seeking to reinforce our relations,” he stated.

The concert served not only as a celebration of music but also as a reminder of how arts can shape identities and foster connections among diverse cultures. Ambassador Sargsyan highlighted the role of music as a bridge between people, enhancing cultural exchange, promoting tolerance, and fostering mutual respect and understanding.

The event attracted a diverse audience, including Artur Martirosyan, Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of Armenia, Ethiopian high-level state officials, ambassadors, and members of the Ethiopian-Armenian community. The gathering underscored the importance of cultural diplomacy in strengthening international relations.

As the evening unfolded, the harmonious blend of Armenian and Hungarian musical traditions resonated throughout the church, leaving attendees inspired and united in the shared experience of art and culture. This concert not only celebrated the rich legacies of both nations but also highlighted the ongoing efforts to build bridges through the universal language of music.
