Veteran singer Qemer Yusuf to release final album “Galano” and celebrate 50 years in music

Legendary Ethiopian singer Qemer Yusuf has announced the release of his final album, “Galano,” capping a remarkable 50-year musical journey. The celebrated artist will mark this milestone with a series of events, including a high-profile album launch and a grand concert, organizers revealed this week.

In a press statement, Qemer Yusuf confirmed that “Galano” will be his last album, describing the occasion as a significant moment in his career and for Ethiopian music. The official album inauguration is set for June 22, 2025, at the Skylight Hotel, where prominent figures from Ethiopia’s art and entertainment scene are expected to attend.

The album “Galano” features 14 tracks, crafted in collaboration with some of Ethiopia’s most respected musicians, lyricists, and composers. While the full list of contributors remains under wraps, organizers emphasized the album’s high quality and cultural significance.

The celebrations will continue with a major concert on October 3, 2025, at Millennium Hall, coinciding with the eve of the Irrecha festival. Event organizers anticipate a crowd of more than 30,000 fans for what promises to be an unforgettable evening.

Following the album launch and the Addis Ababa concert, Qemer Yusuf will embark on a national tour, performing in cities such as Adama, Shashemene, Harar, Jimma, and Dire Dawa. Plans are also underway for international performances in North America, Europe, Australia, and several Arab countries, allowing fans around the world to join in the celebration.

Qemer Yusuf is widely regarded as one of Ethiopia’s most influential and respected artists. Throughout his career, he has played a pivotal role in advancing Ethiopian music both at home and abroad. Notably, Qemer has contributed significantly to Aramaic music and has performed in more than a dozen languages, bringing Ethiopian sounds to audiences in over 48 countries.

As “Galano” marks the culmination of his illustrious career, tributes have poured in from fans and fellow artists alike. At the press conference, one attendee remarked, “Qemer is not just a vocalist; he is a fighter who brought us out of the dark ages,” reflecting the deep respect and admiration he commands for both his musical talent and cultural impact.

With the release of “Galano,” Qemer Yusuf bids farewell to recording, leaving behind a legacy that has shaped the course of Ethiopian music for half a century.
