U.S. Senate Foreign Relations chair warns of consequences following report alleging Ethiopia hosts RSF training camp

U.S. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Sen. Jim Risch has warned of potential consequences following a Reuters investigative report alleging Ethiopia is hosting a training camp for fighters linked to Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF).

In a statement posted on social media, Sen. Risch said he was “concerned about reports of a UAE-linked training hub for genocidal RSF thugs in Ethiopia with possible supply routes via Somaliland,” adding that such developments “would be escalatory and further reason to designate the RSF as a Foreign Terrorist Organization (FTO), bringing consequences for this regional proxy support.”

The remarks follow a recent Reuters investigative report alleging Ethiopia is hosting a training camp for RSF-linked fighters in the western Benishangul-Gumuz region near the Sudan border. The report, citing multiple diplomatic, security, and government sources as well as satellite imagery analysis, suggested the facility could provide new recruits to the paramilitary group as fighting continues in Sudan. Ethiopian authorities have not publicly responded to the allegations. (Addis Standard)
