Tariff set for Ethio-Djibouti rail service

The long awaited cross country heavy railway network is going to commence official operation. According to a statement the Ethiopian Railway Corporation (ERC) sent to Capital, the railway that stretches from Sebeta to Negad in Djibouti via Mieso-Dewale-Ali Sabieh will start operation on Wednesday January 3.ethio-djibouti-rail

The railway that is managed under the Ethio-Djibouti Standard Gauge Railway was officially inaugurated 15 months ago. The operation has been on trial test to commence official operation. ERC has also announced the tariff (pls see the table). According to the statement, the tariff for cargo consignment is USD 0.051 per ton/km.

According to the statement that ERC sent, for the first 15 days as of January 3 the price of shuttle has a 50 percent discount. The two Chinese companies that undertake the construction work will manage the operation for the coming few years.
