Ethiopia NegedBank won the 2024 Premier League title

Ethiopia NegdBank defeated Ethiopia Medin(Insurance) in the season’s final fixture to win the 2024 Premier League title. Under head Coach Beselot Lulseged, NegedBank collected 64 points from 30 fixtures to win the coveted trophy for the first time in the club’s history. The only title contender Mechal ended runner up while Ethiopia Bunna finished far third in the table.
The season’s surprise package NegedBank took every challenge on its way up to the title decided on the season’s closing match. Had it lost or settled for a draw against rival Medin, one point behind since the last three fixtures Mechal could have claimed the title after its one-nil win over Diredawa.
Ninteen wins, seven draws and four defeats, the season’s most consistent side NegedBank deservedly got away with the title becoming the third club to claim the championship title in its very first season at the top tier next to Jimma AbaJifar and Mekele Seba-Enderta. Netting the highest number of goals 57 and conceding 27, NegedBank stood first in its goal tally ten goals more than runner up Mechal that boasts deadly striker Menyelu Wondemu, play maker Shimeles Bekele and attacking midfielder Kenan Markneh.
Despite winning the last four of the five matches including the latest one-nil win over Diredawa, Mechal’s strong title contention under little known head Coach Gebrekristos Birra failed to come true.  Nineteen wins, six draws and five defeats, Mechal finished runner up a point behind the champions.
Though a 2-1 season closing defeat at the hands of Hadiya, Ethiopia Bunna finished far third collecting 51 points from 14 wins, 9 draws and seven defeats. Baherdar, the defending champions Kidus Giorgis and Fasil Ketema finished from 4th to 6th respectively.
Wolkite Ketema for a second season in a row survived relegation at the final stretch finishing 14th in the table followed behind by the newcomers Shashemene Ketema and Hambericho. Despite a late season resurgence Shashemene called mayday to parachute down from the elite’s club collecting 17 points. With a single win, six draws and a recent time low record 23 defeats, rock bottom of the table Hambericho booted out of the top tier collecting just nine points from 30 matches.
