Ethiopian Mobility and smart-infrastructure startup Orbix Technologies has officially launched its multi-sector digital platform, targeting 500,000 electric vehicles (EVs) as part of a strategic push to unify Ethiopia’s expanding green transport ecosystem.
The rollout follows an intensive 18-month development cycle and a successful pilot phase, according to information obtained by Capital from the company.
Founded two years ago by four young professionals, Orbix aims to eliminate fragmented urban services by integrating networks spanning cities, infrastructure, user communities, and government institutions into a single cohesive framework.
Rather than operating physical charging stations or parking facilities directly, the enterprise is designed to function as a hardware-agnostic digital layer.
Its centralized software stack connects private operators, municipal lots, and commercial hubs, facilitating real-time space discovery, automated license-plate recognition (ANPR), and integrated digital wallets.
“Our goal is not merely to transition existing services onto modern mobile handsets, but to integrate and deliver technologies that offer diverse solutions,” said Founder and CEO Seyoum Tesfaye. He added that the firm has developed four core technological pillars to accelerate Ethiopia’s digital transformation.
The platform’s initial modules include a smart parking solution that enables drivers to locate and pay for spaces in under 30 seconds, an EV charging network manager designed to support national green transport goals, a civic reporting tool for municipal maintenance, and a tourism module digitizing national destinations.
According to Seyoum, while the startup has outlined multi-year metrics—including a target to integrate more than 2,000 charging stations nationwide—leadership emphasizes that user acquisition and ecosystem onboarding take precedence over immediate revenue generation.
By streamlining operations for service providers and minimizing transaction friction for motorists, Orrbix is positioning itself as foundational digital infrastructure for urban mobility as Ethiopia’s electric vehicle adoption accelerates.
