Deputy Premier meets with Sudanese President Omer Al-Bashir

Deputy Prime Minister Demeke Mekonnen met with Sudanese President Omer Al-Bashir, in Khartoum.
The two sides exchanged views on bilateral and regional issues at the meeting held on the sidelines of the signing of agreement on outstanding issues of governance and security by all conflicting parties of South Sudan.
Demeke on the occasion commended Sudan for contributing for the success of the South Sudan peace process, according to Office of Deputy Prime Minister of Ethiopia.
During the meeting, the Ethiopian Deputy Premier also briefed the President on Ethiopia’s current affairs as well as rapprochement between Ethiopia and Eritrea.
Demeke extended his gratitude to the government of Sudan for releasing 1,400 Ethiopians from prison and for its firm stance on the construction of the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
President Omer Al-Bashir for his part commended the reforms undertaken by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed.
The reconciliation between Ethiopia and Eritrea is crucial for the peace and stability of the region, he added.
President Al-Bashir also underscored the need to resolve the cause of occasional conflicts along the Ethio-Sudan border.
