Ebne Hakim releases “Tsehaye,” a Soulful Ode to Hope and Heritage

Rising Ethio-Fusion artist Ebne Hakim has released his latest single, “Tsehaye,” a heartfelt reflection on longing, hope, and the enduring light of love and culture. The track, whose title means “sun” in Amharic, blends traditional Tigrigna rhythms with contemporary alternative R&B sounds, creating a unique sonic experience that pays tribute to Ethiopia’s rich musical heritage.

Timed to coincide with Ashenda, the vibrant cultural festival celebrated by young women in northern Ethiopia, “Tsehaye” captures the festival’s spirit of resilience and unity. Its lyrics tell the story of a man waiting for the return of a loved one, with a central theme of hope expressed through the question, “Will she rise like the sun before tomorrow comes?”

Produced by Nuhi and released under Bana Records in exclusive partnership with Sony Music East Africa, the song marks a significant moment in Ebne Hakim’s career. Known for his emotionally vulnerable lyrics and genre-blending style, Ebne continues to carve out a leading place in Ethiopia’s music scene while bridging traditional roots with forward-looking sounds.

Ebne Hakim—a native of Addis Ababa—first gained attention with his debut single “Gela” and his EP “Brana,” both showcasing his unique fusion of Ethiopian musical scales with soul and pop influences. Bana Records, based in Addis Ababa, champions artists like Ebne who push the boundaries of Ethiopian music, merging local heritage with global trends.
