The 2026 European Union Film Festival (EUFF) has opened in Addis Ababa, bringing more than 27 films from 23 European countries to audiences in the capital.
The festival is being held at Videobet Cinema from October 24 to November 20, 2026, with free entrance for the public. Its opening ceremony took place on October 23 at the National Theatre, while the closing ceremony is scheduled for November 21, also at the National Theatre.
Organised and funded by the EU Delegation to Ethiopia, the EU Delegation to the African Union, the European Parliament, 23 EU member states and guest countries, the festival aims to celebrate European cinema, culture, languages and diversity.
This year’s programme invites audiences to discover inspiring stories, reflect on shared values and challenges, and connect through cinema. The selection includes films from across Europe, offering viewers a range of genres, languages and perspectives.
The festival is expected to provide a platform for cultural exchange between European filmmakers and Ethiopian audiences, while also highlighting the diversity of European cinema.
Unlike the opening and closing ceremonies, the main screenings at Videobet Cinema are open to the public free of charge. The full schedule of films is available through the EU Delegation’s official channels.
The EUFF has become one of Addis Ababa’s major cultural events, bringing European films to local audiences and creating space for dialogue around culture, creativity and shared global issues.
