Saint George pushed-off arch rival Ethiopia Bunna to claim the Premier League top spot with two points clear. The title contention appears to be among nine sides including tenth in the table Jimma Aba JIfar.
After a 1-0 away victory over Welwalo-Adigrat, Saint George took control of the driver’s seat for the first time this season. With, seven wins, three draws and two defeats “The Horse Riders” are in control of the table with 24 points from 12 matches they are two points clear from Ethiopia Bunna with 22 points from 13 matches. The return of Salahadin Said and Getaneh Kebede appeared to be the turning point. They have not lost since the fourth week of the season.
Though Ethiopia Bunna and Hawassa are second and third in the table they played all 13 fixtures while those behind have extra games in hand. With four consecutive wins including the 3-1 home victory over Sidama Bunna, Mekele Seba-Enderta is fifth in the table just two points down but three matches in hand while Sidama and Fasil are also in the race each with twenty points from eleven matches.
Adama is sitting seventh with 17 points from 12 matches and in poor form Baherdar has two matches in hand yet is eighth in the table with 17 points. Add to the list defending champion Jimma Aba Jifar currently tenth in the table with 12 points yet five matches in hand. If the above mentioned sides manage to win their remaining games, Ethiopia Bunna might land in mid table

Four berths up for grabs in Africa

With four places at Poland 2019 up for grabs, the FIFA U-20 World Cup is tantalizingly close for the eight participating sides at the CAF U-20 Africa Cup of Nations. The continental showdown takes place in Niger and will run from 2-17 February 2019.
Mali has the potential to finally join the ranks of the victorious. Mamoutou Kane’s charges laid down a marker in the second and third qualifying rounds with aggregate victories over Tanzania (1-2, 4-1) and Cameroon (1-1, 3-0), despite the absence of several key players who had club duty in Europe.
However, for the continental final in Niger, Les Aiglons have at their disposal a similar squad to that which brought them glory at the U-17 CAN in 2017 and can also count on their forward and star man Lassana N’Diaye, currently on the books of CSKA Moscow. Also firmly in the mix are Ghana. Runners-up to Mali two years ago at U-17 level, the Black Satellites will be keen to make amends this time out, especially after missing the last U-20 finals in Zambia.
There is also a strong case to be made for Nigeria. Seven titles and 14 podium finishes speak volumes of their consistency at this age level. They have plenty of quality in their current squad too, such as striker Yahaya Nazifi, as well as the vast experience of Coach Paul Osahoun Aigbogun, who has plied his trade in Wales, the USA, South Africa and England. Tournament regulars Senegal cannot be discounted either, after finishing runners-up in the last two editions of this championship. The four semi-finalists will qualify for Poland 2019.
Group A
Niger, South Africa, Nigeria and Burundi

Construction endangers historical printing facility

The historical, Tesfa Gebreslassie Printing Press, a landmark in Arat Killo, is cracking because of the effects of a nearby construction.
Tesfa’s son, Te’ebeb told Capital that the building will be destroyed if things continue like this.
“There are new cracks in the building every day, we have asked the government for help but there has not been a response. The problem is the construction which is taking place less than five meters from the house.”
“Recently the Addis Ababa Cultural and Tourism Bureau wrote a letter asking those constructing buildings nearby to fix the cracks but this request has fallen on deaf ears. I can assure you the building will be destroyed if the cracking continues like this,” he added.
The building was registered as a historical heritage four years ago. In 2010 it, along with several other older homes in Arat Kilo, was scheduled for demolition. However, after much debate the municipality took 5,000sqm from the printing building and left 2,055sqm to Tesfa Gebreslassie to continue the printing business. Tesfa has applied for a title deed many times but has not received one so far.
According to regulations on heritage sites any new construction should be at least 200 meters away. However, due to poor supervision, many new buildings are being built in close to the proximity of historical sites.
The building, located at Arat killo lies on 2,055sqm in a fenced compound. It is made of stones and mud and has been publishing materials for 100 years.
Tesfa Gebreselassie was born in Bulga, Gojam. He is known for preparing the Ethiopian Alphabet in sequential order and he developed the printing business to publish religious and educational books. He also fought the Italians and was given the title Dejazmach. He died 18 years ago and was buried in Entoto Church.
The printer employs 70 people who work on eight machines.
