Japan-Cameroon Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On August 24, commencing at 6:28 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Lejeune Mbella Mbella, Minister of External Relations of the Republic of Cameroon who is visiting Japan to participate in the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview is as follows.

At the outset, Minister Kamikawa mentioned that Cameroon is a driving force for the Central African economy and stated that Japan intends to cooperate for economic integration and human resources development in the Central Africa region, with Cameroon as a gateway to the region.
In addition, Minister Kamikawa stated that Japan intends to work with Cameroon, a major regional power, in maintaining and strengthening a free and open international order based on the rule of law.
In response, Minister Mbella Mbella explained Cameroon’s efforts toward economic development, and expressed his gratitude for Japan’s support and expectations for strengthening economic relations with Japan.
The two ministers confirmed that they would further develop Japan-Cameroon relations towards TICAD 9 in the coming year.

Japan-Mauritius Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On August 24, commencing at 10:22 a.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with Hon. Mr. Maneesh Gobin, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of the Republic of Mauritius who is visiting Japan to attend the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview is as follows.

At the outset, Minister Kamikawa stated that Japan intends to continue to work together with Mauritius, an important partner in promoting a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” (FOIP), towards the strengthening of the rule of law in the Indo-Pacific region. In response, Minister Gobin stated that he was pleased to attend TICAD and expressed his support for FOIP. He also expressed his expectations for Japan’s support for the establishment of its embassy in Tokyo.
The two ministers concurred on continuing coordination in the areas of maritime security and the blue economy. The two ministers also confirmed that they would further cooperate towards the expansion of Japanese investment to Mauritius.
The two ministers confirmed that Japan-Mauritius relations will be further developed towards TICAD 9 in the coming year.

Japan-Comoros Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On August 24, commencing at 4:28 p.m. (for approximately 15 minutes), Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with H.E. Mr. Mohamed MBAE, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Union of Comoros, who is visiting Japan to attend the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview is as follows.

At the outset, Minister Kamikawa expressed her gratitude for Comoros’ contributions as the AU Chair at last year’s G7 Hiroshima Summit and paid tribute to the successful realization of the AU’s membership in the G20. Minister Kamikawa also stated that she would like to continue strengthening cooperation in both bilateral and international arenas. In response, Minister Mbae expressed his expectations for further development of the favorable bilateral relations between the two countries.
Minister Kamikawa expressed her intention to continue working closely with Comoros, an important partner in promoting a “Free and Open Indo-Pacific” (FOIP). In response, Minister Mbae expressed his gratitude for Japan’s support to date and the two ministers confirmed that a free and open maritime order based on the rule of law is essential as maritime nations and they would work closely together.

The two ministers confirmed that they would further develop Japan-Comoros relations towards TICAD 9 in the coming year.

Japan-Zimbabwe Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

On August 24, commencing at 4:06 p.m. for approximately 20 minutes, Ms. KAMIKAWA Yoko, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan, held a meeting with Hon. Frederick Musiiwa Makamure SHAVA, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Zimbabwe, who is visiting Japan to attend the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) Ministerial Meeting. The overview of the meeting is as follows.

At the outset, Minister Kamikawa congratulated Zimbabwe on its assumption of the chairmanship of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and expressed her intention to cooperate not only bilaterally but also in the context of the Southern African region. Minister Kamikawa also informed that Japan provided approximately 5,800 tons of fertilizer and decided to implement food aid program to Zimbabwe, which is suffering from severe food insecurity due to drought. In response, Minister Shava expressed his gratitude for Japan’s assistance to Zimbabwe and explained his country’s efforts as the SADC chair-country.
Minister Kamikawa then asked for continued cooperation for the stable supply of petalite produced in Zimbabwe and welcomed Zimbabwe’s participation in the pavilion at the Osaka-Kansai Expo. The two ministers shared their view to further strengthen bilateral economic relations, including the agricultural sector.

The two ministers confirmed that they would further develop Japan-Zimbabwe relations towards TICAD 9 in the coming year.
