TechStitched fashion residency program celebrates African fashion innovation in Ethiopia

In a groundbreaking initiative that merges technology, fashion, and cultural exchange, the TechStitched Fashion Residency Program is set to take place in Ethiopia. Organized by the Hub of Africa Fashion Week and Guzo Technologies, the program aims to foster innovation and collaboration within the African fashion industry.

Scheduled to unfold in March 2024 in Addis Ababa and Arba Minch, the TechStitched Fashion Residency Program seeks to bridge geographical gaps and promote co-creation among continental fashion weeks through the integration of technology.

Selected designers from renowned African fashion weeks, including the Hub of Africa, Accra, Swahili, South Africa, and Lagos Fashion Weeks, will converge in Ethiopia for a transformative journey of exploration, craftsmanship, and collaboration. This unique opportunity allows designers to immerse themselves in Ethiopia’s rich cultural tapestry and traditional artisanal practices.

Throughout the program, participants will engage in workshops and activities that embrace Ethiopia’s vibrant cultural heritage. They will explore traditional hand-woven techniques, experiment with a diverse palette of materials, and explore natural dyeing and embroidery practices. By combining age-old traditions with contemporary design aesthetics, designers will create a collection that represents the fusion of cultural diversity and creative collaboration.

The culmination of the program will be a grand fashion showcase, where designers will unveil their creations to a live audience. This highly anticipated event will celebrate the transformative power of cultural exchange and highlight the unique design perspectives of each participant. From intricately woven textiles to innovative designs, the runway will come alive with a vibrant display of African fashion excellence.
