The Addis Jazz Festival (AJF) extended its warmest thanks to all involved in making the 3rd edition of the festival a resounding success. The festival, which took place from May 24-26 at the African Jazz Village, featured an impressive lineup of established and up-and-coming artists from across the African continent.
The festival, the flagship event for Ethiopia’s leading music and event production company Muzikawi, has established itself as the premier jazz event in East Africa since its inaugural edition in 2019. This year’s lineup continued the tradition of showcasing a diverse range of jazz styles, from the celebrated Afrigo band from Uganda to the captivating sounds of Mathew Tembo from Zambia.
Other notable performers included the fascinating Selmor Mtukudzi from Zimbabwe, the iconic Dawit Yifru accompanied by the legendary Girma Beyene, as well as esteemed Ethiopian musicians like Jorga Mesfin, the Yaho Ethiopian Traditional Music Band, the Mehari Brothers, and Yohana Sahle.
A highlight of this year’s festival was the album release of Jorga Mesfin on May 24th, as well as a special guest performance by the renowned Dr. Mulatu Astatke. The festival also celebrated Africa Day on May 25th, drawing an enthusiastic audience.
“We are thrilled with the success of this year’s Addis Jazz Festival,” said Muzikawi CEO Aida Muluneh. “The festival continues to grow in stature, bringing together some of the finest jazz talent from across Africa and providing a platform to showcase Ethiopia’s rich musical heritage. We are already looking forward to next year’s edition.”
With its diverse programming, collaborative spirit, and celebration of African jazz, the Addis Jazz Festival is cementing its position as a must-attend event for music lovers in the region and beyond.
