Gamers improvise in Arada

Arada game night is a monthly interactive experience where game creators and players get together and explore. This gaming experience is a two-year project supervised under Goethe-Institut. It is managed by Julia and her subordinates Dagmawi Bedelu and Bethlehem Anteneh. Arada is an African gaming experience located in Addis Ababa that goes by the theme “game thinking” which is made up of young talented game designers.
Arada gaming experience is set to entertain, challenge, impart and form a gaming community; and it targets eradicating racism, sexism, stereotypes and enforces equality of all kinds. On the top of that it is working on activating the African youth society in order to envision Africa’s future. It also works on raising a topic and creates a solution thus gamers can develop good problem solving skills. Game night co-coordinator and game designer Dagmawi Bedelu stated that “the Arada people are the next big thing to human cognitive evolution.” He went on to explain that: “People hide themselves in mental abstractions (Race, Ethnicity, Gender, Sexuality, Ideology, Class, Social Status, and Religion); the only one way out it is through self-awakening and Arada community can provide that.
Aside from the mainstream games Arada will be presenting a brand new one. Arada is defined in the game as a state awakening, a state of omniscience. It is a fictional story with 12 characters inspired by Ethiopia’s major ethnicities. Players attempt to impersonate these characters; in doing so it helps them to put themselves in the other tribal society’s shoes and understand each other which hopefully will lead to harmonious coexistence between different cultures.
Arada invites everyone to take part on the second gaming night that will be held at the Goethe-Institut Addis Ababa on July 25, 2019 at 4:00PM. Participants will have the chance to create and test new games or play all sorts of popular, indie, original games.
