Ethiopia to receive 180,000 doses of J&J vaccine from AUC

Under the scheme of African union for COVID-19 vaccine, Ethiopia will receive 180,000 doses of Johnson and Johnson vaccine.
The African Union (AU), through the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), has worked with the African Vaccine Acquisition Trust (AVAT) to secure 400 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines in the coming three months.
As part of the initiative on Monday September, 6, Ethiopia is expected to receive its first delivery dispatch of the vaccine from the AUC.
AVAT was established by the COVID-19 African Vaccine Acquisition Task Team, which was set up in November 2020 by President Cyril Ramaphosa, President of the Republic of South Africa, in his capacity as Chairperson of the African Union (AU), as a support component to the COVID-19 Immunisation Strategy that was endorsed by the AU Bureau of Heads of State and Government in August 2020. AVAT’s main partner institutions are the African Union’s Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank) and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
Previously, Ethiopia had received 453,600 doses of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine as part of the U.S. government’s global efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.
