The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (CBE) demonstrated robust revenue diversification during the 2025/26 financial year, pulling in Birr 60.51 billion in non-interest income. The figure marks a sharp increase from the Birr 34.09 billion reported in the preceding fiscal period, underscoring the institution’s expanding operational footprint and growing fee-based service capabilities.
Despite this notable top-line expansion across alternative revenue channels, the bank’s audited financial statements highlight significant offsetting pressures from broader macroeconomic variables.
Specifically, the institution navigated complex foreign currency transaction dynamics that resulted in a net loss or adjustment of Birr 36.70 billion.
Additionally, non-interest operational expenses climbed to Birr 113.70 billion, up from Birr 56.77 billion in 2024, reflecting the operational costs associated with managing a rapidly scaling balance sheet that has crossed the two trillion birr threshold.
Even with these counterbalancing currency adjustments and elevated overhead expenditures, the bank’s core revenue engines—bolstered by a surge in gross interest income to Birr 132.05 billion and a major impairment reversal of Birr 37.03 billion—anchored a highly profitable fiscal year.
Overall financial performance culminated in a record net profit attributable to the bank of Birr 38.71 billion.
The comprehensive financial statements, certified by an independent auditor’s report from the Audit Service Corporation under a clean, unmodified IFRS opinion, illustrate how the bank absorbs external currency shocks while expanding institutional services.
Approved by Board Chairperson Ahmed Shide and Bank President Abie Sano, the report affirms that CBE maintains resilient internal controls, adequate liquidity, and steady operational momentum within Ethiopia’s evolving financial sector.
