Konza technopolis signs mou with acyberschool to train one million kenyans in cybersecurity and ai

Konza Technopolis Development Authority (KoTDA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Acyberschool to train one million Kenyans on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cybersecurity, aiming to position Kenyan youth at a vantage position in creating and thriving in the hybrid digital economy jobs across Africa and beyond.

The MoU, which was signed at the ongoing Connected Africa Summit 2024 will be implemented in five years, with both parties collaborating in resource mobilization of resources required to make the partnership successful.

Speaking after the signing, John Paul Okwiri,   KoTDA Chief Executive Officer, noted that the partnership will augment the Jitume Digital Skills program and accelerate digital skills development in the country. (Press release)

At least 21 Ethiopian migrants dead after boat capsizes off coast of Djibouti

At least 21 people have died after a boat capsized off the coast of Djibouti, the UN’s migration agency has said. It was the second fatal maritime accident in two weeks off the Horn of Africa nation, which lies on the perilous so-called eastern migration route from Africa to the Middle East. Another vessel carrying mainly Ethiopian migrants sank in the same area on 8 April, claiming the lives of several dozen people. Tanja Pacifico, the International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) chief of mission in Djibouti, said that 21 bodies had been recovered, while 23 people were still missing. Another 33 people survived the disaster, she said. (AFP)

More than 50 000 people have been displaced by clashes in a disputed area in northern Ethiopia, the United Nations said, as the international community expressed concern about the violence involving fighters from rival regions…Under a peace deal between Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed’s government and Tigrayan authorities, Amhara forces – which backed federal troops during the conflict – were due to withdraw from Raya Alamata after the agreement was signed in Pretoria in November 2022. President El-Sisi Receives Amir of the State of Kuwait, HH Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi receives Amir of the State of Kuwait, His Highness Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al Sabah, who is paying a state visit to the Arab Republic of Egypt.

The two leaders will hold talks on ways to further advance the historical and outstanding relations between Egypt and Kuwait, as well as regional issues and dossiers pertinent to joint Arab action of priority.
