Dimitra, a prominent AgTech enterprise system based on blockchain technology, is partnering closely with the Limu Inara Multipurpose Cooperatives Union in Ethiopia. This union consists of approximately 51,000 farmers and together they aim to enhance farmers’ livelihoods and revolutionize agricultural practices in the region.

European Union coffee importers are reducing purchases from small Ethiopian farmers in anticipation of a groundbreaking EU law that will prohibit the sale of goods associated with deforestation. Dimitra’s Connected Coffee Platform and Deforestation Compliance Module offer a solution to ease the challenges and costs of complying with the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR).

The Connected Coffee solution enables real-time tracking and tracing of coffee beans at every stage of the supply chain. This feature is crucial for meeting EUDR requirements, as importers must digitally map their supply chains down to the specific plots where the raw materials were cultivated. Additionally, by utilizing Dimitra’s Deforestation Compliance Module, smallholder farmers can ensure adherence to the stringent EUDR standards. The European Union has allocated a support package of 2.7 billion birr over a period of three years to Ethiopia. The program, funded with 43.5 million euros, aims to assist communities affected by conflict and natural disasters in the Afar, Amhara, Benshangul, Gumuz, and Tigray regions.

The European Union, in collaboration with partner institutions, has launched a three-year program to provide assistance to individuals displaced by conflict and natural disasters in various parts of Ethiopia. The European Union will contribute 40 million euros to the program, while the remaining funds will be provided by partner institutions.

The program will primarily focus on enhancing the livelihoods of displaced people in the Afar, Amhara, Benshangul Gumuz, and Tigray regions. It will include vocational training, the provision of financial services to communities, and the creation of employment opportunities.

The International Organization for Migration, GIZ, the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), the United Nations High Commission for Refugees, and the Danish and Ethiopian Red Cross will collaborate in implementing the program.

The Disaster Risk Management Commission and the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Ethiopia issued a joint statement, stating that over four million people in the country require assistance due to conflict, war, and climate change.

The program will prioritize areas most affected by conflict, with high concentrations of internally displaced persons (IDPs) or returnees, and those in urgent need of access to basic services and livelihoods.

Roland Kobia, Ambassador of the European Union to Ethiopia, stated, “As a major international partner for Ethiopia, the EU remains committed to providing development support to all regions of Ethiopia during times of need. This program is a timely contribution to complement humanitarian aid and ensure that humanitarian, development, and peace efforts reinforce one another.”

The program aims to improve livelihoods through skills training and vocational education in agriculture and other sectors. It will also facilitate access to financial services and employment opportunities. Additionally, the program will support sustainable water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) services, including infrastructure rehabilitation/construction, effective management and maintenance of WASH facilities, capacity building, and improved hygiene and sanitation practices.

Eagle Hills has announced that the La Gare project, consisting of a 30,000 square meter apartment and shopping mall complex, will be fully completed and handed over to the owners by 2026.

The Ethiopian government will have a 27 percent share in the project’s resources, and efforts are underway to finalize the integrated housing construction in the La Gare area of Addis Ababa.

Senior government officials, including Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed, have stated that this project, which commenced in November 2018, will be finished within a timeframe of 5 to 7 years.

The development, undertaken in partnership between Eagle Hills, an Abu Dhabi-based company, and the Addis Ababa City Administration, has required an investment of 50 billion birr.

Eagle Hills, renowned for its real estate development expertise, has also announced the launch of La Gare Mall Residences. The construction of all four buildings will be carried out in collaboration with China Communication Construction Company Limited (CCCC).

The much-anticipated launch event for La Gare Mall Residences is scheduled to take place from January 10-12, 2024, at the Hyatt Regency in Addis Ababa.

This project encompasses a vast 30,000 square meters of distinctive retail space within La Gare Mall, providing an unparalleled shopping experience for both residents and visitors. The commercial hub offers an array of indoor and outdoor dining options and contemporary designs to cater to various preferences.

In addition, La Gare Mall Residences serves as a new commercial center for the city, featuring luxury apartments, malls, food and beverage establishments, green parks, and close proximity to four- and five-star hotels.

La Gare Mall Residence represents a blend of luxury and convenience in the heart of the city. The residential aspect of La Gare Mall comprises four magnificent towers spanning an impressive 75,000 square meters.

More than 4,000 residential apartments are expected to be built within the new development, which will help alleviate the city’s housing shortage. The entire construction process for this project is estimated to take 5 to 7 years, with the first mall in the complex set to be completed within three years.

The project is envisioned to include three modern 4- and 5-star hotels, residential apartments, commercial and entertainment areas, as well as a vast and contemporary shopping center.
