Ministry of Education issues last warning to international schools which have been shutting down classes without informing the ministry as if there is an imminent threat to the capital despite claims from rebel forces.
The letter from the ministry sent to the international schools which have stopped classes reads, the schools have stopped classes without announcing to the ministry or without any obvious reason. Unless the schools re-start class with in one week, the ministry will revoke the teaching license indicates the letter. Similar to Education Ministry the parents of the students in the various schools seem to be in opposition of the idea of the school closure.
“There is no serious situation in Addis Ababa which could lead to the closure of classes,” said officials from the Ministry of Education. As officials state, even if the school have issues, they should inform the ministry before shutting classes.
Last week most of the international schools have been sending a letter to parents indicating that classes could be closed due to security concerns. Following this, last week on November 4, 2021 the ministry sent a notification letter to the international schools saying that it is not appropriate to send such a message to the parents without any direction from the relevant government body or the Ministry of Education adding that all schools will remain open.
Currently there are about 26 international schools in Ethiopia, 24 are situated in the capital and 2 in Oromia region within Bishoftu.
The ministry is authorized to give and renew license for international and societal schools and every school has an obligation to inform the ministry whenever it stops classes for either permanent or temporary reasons.
In overall context that has led to closure of the schools in the first place, the government has been moving swiftly to protect civilians from atrocities being committed by the terrorist group TPLF in several parts of the country. On November 2, 2021 the government declared a nationwide state of emergency. The six-month state of emergency allows, among other things, for roadblocks to be established, transport services to be disrupted, curfews to be imposed and for the military to take over in certain areas. Anyone suspected of having links with “terrorist” groups could also be detained without a court warrant, while any citizen who has reached the age of military service could be called to fight.
On similar news, starting from Monday November 8, 2021 the ministry gave the first round of the 12th grade national examination which ended peacefully.
According to the ministry, in the first round 565,255 students took the national exam which was 96 percent from the expected number.
Also in areas the national exam has not been administered due to various problems, it will be given in the second round after making psychological readiness of students.

PARADIGM SHIFT-WESTERN NEOLIBERALISM
The ideology of the modern world system heavily rests on the tradition of liberal democracy (in the arena of political governance) and aspired ‘laissez faire’ capitalism (in the sphere of the economy.) To be sure, the worldly realization of both, in their pure ideological sense, was never a possibility, given how the human animal behaves in its collectivized settings. In the case of the former, for instance, it was social democracy, which (more or less) prevailed, particularly in the old countries of the West. By the same token, the principle of ‘free market’ economy became anything but! In the 1970s an invigorated admixture of the above two came into prominence and was promptly christened ‘neoliberalism.’ Presently this amalgam is undergoing functional and structural stress of immense proportions.
After the demise of the USSR, neoliberalism took center stage in the political economy of the world system. The vacuum created by the wholesale abandonment of various left tendencies (Marxists, et al), also availed ample space for neoliberalism to dominate a good portion of life all over. Two decades after the alleged triumph of neoliberalism, the tide has changed course and the project of unfettered capitalism is now on the ropes, so to speak! Whichever way one slices it, there are obvious shortcomings associated with the ideology of neoliberalism. We will explore developments that were accentuated by neoliberalism, starting with the core countries of the system. Amongst the main problems neoliberalism wrought to the western sheeple, political governance and polarization feature prominently.
In the Western arena of political governance, democracy seems to have been succeeded, rather effectively, by plutocracy. Democracy, as promoted by the political honchos of the plutocratic/oligarchic system seems to be, neither an ideal towards which human societies must strive, nor even an operational/methodological exigency required to keep the capitalist machine humming. In regard to the latter, we can mention the day-to-day operations of the ‘deep state’ of the core countries. Unlike before, it is now the powerful bureaucratic deep state that calls the shot. For instance, what the military-security-industrial-banking-media complex decides goes and there isn’t much the sheeple, nor its powerless institutions can do about it. Wars, surveillance, open lies via instruments of propaganda, etc., etc. are features that became pronounced after the ascendance of the current neoliberalism in the West!
In the lands of the entrenched plutocrats, the role of the good sheeple is reduced to a mere drone and an obedient one at that! So long as there is the usual bread and circus, the peace will be maintained, of course up to a point. In other words and putting it more bluntly, the sheeple is already on a fast track back to serfdom. In effect, plutocracy is a rule without legitimacy. Here we assume (may be naively) that it is only living humans that can legit representation, not dead ones, like capital. One should be reminded that capital is, after all dead labor! In places like the United States, it is not the sheeple that could elect and bestow authority on politicians, but rather money or the moneyed! For example, recent ruling by the US Supreme Court has emphatically asserted that not only corporations have legal personality, but can also elect their favored politicians, via money! Since politicos swarm where there is money, one cannot find easier bait! This is probably where the phrase ‘money talks bullshit walks’ came from. In short, grand political corruption has become an integral part of political governance.
The second horrific outcome of neoliberalism is its systemic and ongoing polarization, i.e., fostering inequality within a given society, to say nothing about polarization between countries! The visible pauperization of the sheeple in the advanced industrial nations is without precedence in recent history. One has to go back all the way to the beginning of the last century (Gilded age 1890-1920s) and the Depression (1930s) to find something that remotely resembles what obtains in the West today! Very few and highly connected western elites continue to make it big, not because they have come up with stuff/systems to better humanity’s fortune, but rather they have managed to concoct various laws/regulations to help them devise all sorts of schemes to effectively transfer wealth from the sheeple to themselves, compliment of prevailing plutocracy! These characters represent less than the .01% of the general population. The offshoot of all these is; the western sheeple is angry and has started to leverage its democratic prerogative, however curtailed, to address the root causes of the prevailing protracted problems, mostly by electing political parties that are bent on rejecting the basic tenets of neoliberalism.
We believe all these commotions are taking place because of the maladministration of global political economy by the spent ideology of neoliberalism. In summary: lack of deep democracy has created deep states, which are run by psychopathic types. Modern feudalism is the other creation of neoliberalism, where the very few and highly politicized operators amass the lion’s share of the wealth of a country while the sheeple toils for pittance.
“All-inclusive” dialogue, MIND to launch in 3 months
The Multi-stakeholder Initiative for National Dialogue (MIND), which has long been anticipated, is set to launch in three months’ time.
The nationwide dialogue is said to bring together the various political interests in the country, in order to facilitate an all-inclusive national dialogue. As Serkalem Gebrekirstos /PhD/, member of MIND explains, a clear date to kick start the dialogue has not been set. He elaborated that launching the national dialogue has five stages which include; inception, preparation, process, implementation and lastly post implementation. Serkalem with regards to the progress update shared that currently MIND is on its second phase which is the preparation stage, and is on track to go for the next two phases soon.
Demands for a national dialogue have become rather extensive since Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed (PhD) came to power following widespread protests across the nation.
The national initiative for a national dialogue in the country is being run by a consortium of civil society organizations, political parties and the government as an entity under the name Multi stakeholder Initiative for National Dialogue (MIND-Ethiopia). The initiative was launched in August 2020, by eight organizations drawn from civic societies, the government and political parties. Over the past one year, MIND has been holding dialogues at different levels with various representatives of the general public including political parties, local level community members, media stakeholders, historians, and the government.
Since its establishment, MIND Ethiopia has been developing a concept note on the National Dialogue, preparing a strategic plan, setting up an institutional arrangement, developing a code of conduct and communication strategy.
“Twenty-two key stakeholders intending to make the national consultation process inclusive and existing institutions where we can access these bodies after groups have been carefully identified. Identification and recruitment of participants through consultation with these institutions and agenda identification and recommendation is underway,” Serkalem said
These key stakeholders represent various sections of society including; farmers, pastoralists, youth, university students, women, marginalized communities, employees, employers, persons with disabilities, business communities, teachers, retirees, excluded Ethiopians, scholars and celebrities, elders and traditionalist leaders, representatives of religious institutions, representatives of civil society, media representatives, bloggers, representatives of the diaspora, political parties and government representatives and security forces. From these various stakeholders in the consultation process and up to 1,000 of them are said to be carefully selected.
The major role of MIND is organizing and facilitating the dialogue, whilst choosing the agenda is left for the participants. “To make the way easier, after selecting participants the next step will be collecting an agenda list from participants,” Serkalem explained to this regard. As he said there are three classifications of the Agenda, which are; soft, moderate and hard based on the issue.
The Initiative, started in August 2020, embraces eight organizations joined together aimed at conducting all-inclusive national dialogue. According to the Initiative, its members are Destiny Ethiopia, Political Parties Joint Council, Ye Hasab Ma’ed, Justice for all, and Initiative for Change, Ethiopian Reconciliation Commission, and Ethiopians for Inclusive Dialogue and Ministry of Peace.
“The National Dialogue in Ethiopia is Ethiopian-led and owned and is envisaged to bring together all relevant political and societal stakeholders in the country with a mandate to address the underlying historical and current causes of conflict and find consensus on major reforms including the setting up of mechanisms and procedures for implementing the agreements reached,” reminded Serkalem whilst underling that the initiative’s role is in facilitation process which is centered around inclusivity.
“The dialogue could take 3 years up to five years, perhaps the ultimate, long-term objective of MIND Ethiopia is to move the country and its people on a sustainable pathway towards an inclusive, just and peaceful society and people, including mechanisms to deal with conflicts and resistances in a peaceful and inclusive manner, likewise the expected outcome is lasting peace and stability to the nation,” Serkalem added.
The initiative is also mobilizing resources, “Our plan is to fully cover our resources here, locally,” Serkalem remarked.
Previously the dialogue was planned to be launched before the six national general elections.
On his swearing-in ceremony on October 4, 2021 Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said his government “will soon launch” an all-inclusive national dialogue towards healing and reconciliation.
