Coach Berhanu Bayu is on the brink of becoming the first coach to be sacked in the current Ethiopian Premier League season. With current national team coach Ashenafi Bekele the hottest favorite three candidates are said to have been interviewed.
Just seven fixtures in to the season and millions of Birr in players transfer relegation struggling Ethio-Electric is to boot out Berhanu Bayu who led the team to the City Cup trophy last season. Surviving relegation for the past three successive seasons much expected to get sacked Berhanu somehow managed to carry on for the new season. Though his role in the winter players’ transfer saga considered minimal for travelling to America and Morocco, he is now accused of failing to achieve results with the current squad thus insiders suggest Dedebit’s match over the week end is likely his last chance to boss the team.
Infamous for surviving relegation at the final matches of the past three successive seasons, Electric is currently 14th in the league table collecting five points from five matches thus many including supporters worried about the coming days. Insiders suggested long in assistant position under different head coaches Ermias is also to be sacked along with Berhanu Bayu.
According to critics all three candidates including under EFF contract Ashenafi Bekele had delivered little or none in their more than three decades of service as club coaches. Wondering around many clubs Ashenafi’s biggest achievement is that of leading Adama in to promotion then to third place while Tilahun Mengesha notorious for getting sacked in mid-season. Wondemagne Kebede had led Electric to championship title in the early nineties but since then he delivered nothing despite bossing around different clubs. “Whoever appointed is not accountable for whatever failure comes at the end of the season. The outgoing coach would be blamed for the squad selection therefore a proven hand needs to be employed” a former electric coach suggested.

The Commercial Bank of Ethiopia in collaboration with Great Run Ethiopia held a 7.5 km race in Hawassa last Sunday. The competition featured over 1,000 people that was held to commemorate CBE’s 75th year anniversary.
Tilahune Haile, Harbo Shanona, Deboko Dekomo finished the race from first up to third in the men’s competition while in the women’s competition Yetaysh Mekonen, finished the race first while Beshoko Emushe and Yitayesh Girma took 2nd and the 3rd places.
Bekalu Zeleke, President of CBE gave money awards for the runners who finished the races up to the 10th place.
The race which was held for celebrating the 75th Anniversary on December will continue in Mekele, Adama, Bahirdar and Addis Ababa.
Literary competitions, blood donations, questions and answer competitions, and panel discussions are also part of CBE ‘s Golden Jubilee Celebration.

Mulualem Regasa, scored the winning goal in the second half and Dawit Estifanos made his first appearance for Fasil Town since the start of the season in the 7th week of the EPL.
When Hawassa’s head coach, Wubetu Abate, singed the over 40 year old journeyman Mulualem to a 900,000 birr one year contract many thought he was crazy.
However, the disciplined BMW driving Mulualem, scored the winning in the 1-0 victory over Dire Dawa.
“He is not here only as a player but also a model to inspire upcoming talent both on and off the field,” remarked Wubetu after the home win.
Among the highest paid players in the league with a 166,000 Birr monthly salary, the former Ethiopia Bunna, Electric and Diredawa midfielder Dawit Estifanos was expected to make a real difference when he put his signature to Fasil. However the notorious Dawit was stranded on the bench until last Sunday where he appeared in a goalless away draw with hosts Adama. What a disparity between the two players and the two coaches!
