Kenya: Health Cabinet Secretary Reaffirms Universal Health Coverage (UHC) Commitment, Stresses Stakeholder Collaboration

In a meeting with the Ministry of Health’s top management, Health Cabinet Secretary Dr. Debora Mlongi Barasa reaffirmed her dedication to advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC), building on the progress initiated by her predecessor, Nakhumicha S. Wafula. 

Dr. Mlongo, accompanied by Principal Secretaries Mr. Harry Kimtai (Medical Services), Ms. Mary Muthoni Muriuki (Public Health and Professional Standards), and Director General of Health Dr Patrick Amoth expressed her commitment to working with technical and support teams to achieve the President’s UHC vision. 

The CS emphasized the need to strengthen community programs and ensure the availability of essential health commodities, particularly maternal and child health services, to provide accessible and affordable healthcare to all Kenyans. 

 “It’s time to deliver, and we must ensure that every Kenyan has access to affordable healthcare,” she affirmed, noting that the necessary resources are in place.The CS highlighted the critical role of stakeholder collaboration, stressing that solutions must be community-driven. 

 Dr. Mlongo also called for improved communication with the public through all channels, and emphasized the importance of sharing best practices, recognizing Kenya’s strong performance in UHC within Africa.

Kenya: Cabinet Secretary for Health Urges Unified Effort Towards Universal Health Coverage

In an all-staff meeting held today, Cabinet Secretary for Health, Dr. Debora Mlongo Barasa Mlongo, called on the Ministry’s staff to work together in harmony and synergy to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC).  

Emphasizing a consultative approach and stakeholder engagement, Dr. Mlongo stressed the importance of collaboration at all levels of the health sector. The CS encouraged the staff to actively communicate the government’s UHC agenda to the public, emphasizing the need to gather and relay feedback to guide the Ministry’s initiatives. 

“Let us all strive to deliver Universal Health Coverage,” Dr. Mlongo stated, underscoring the collective responsibility in ensuring affordable, accessible and quality healthcare for all Kenyans.

Dr. Mlongo was accompanied by Principal Secretaries Mr. Harry Kimtai (Medical Services) and Ms. Mary Muthoni Muriuki (Public Health and Professional Standards), along with Director General of Health Dr. Patrick Amoth among others.

His Highness the Amir Receives Written Message from President of South Sudan

HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani received a written message from HE President of the Republic of South Sudan Salva Kiir Mayardit pertaining to the relations between the two countries and avenues to support and strengthen them.

HE Minister of State at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi received the message during his meeting on Wednesday with HE Minister of Presidential Affairs of the Republic of South Sudan Bangasi Joseph Bakosoro.

Two Qatari Aircraft Arrive in Port Sudan Carrying Relief Aid to Support Flood Victims in Sudan

Two Qatari Armed Forces aircraft arrived at Port Sudan Airport in the Republic of Sudan, carrying 27 tons of relief aid and shelter supplies provided by the Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD), Qatar Charity, and Qatar Red Crescent Society, in support of those affected by floods in Sudan.

Since May 2023, the State of Qatar has been operating an air bridge to Sudan as part of its support for the fraternal Sudanese people and its full support for their steadfastness in the face of the difficult circumstances they are experiencing due to the ongoing fighting.
