Seychelles and Turkmenistan Establish Diplomatic Relations

The Republic of Seychelles and Turkmenistan officially established diplomatic relations following the signing of a Protocol at a ceremony held on Tuesday 13 August 2024, at the Embassy of Turkmenistan in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates.

The Protocol was signed by the Ambassador of the Republic of Seychelles in the United Arab Emirates with jurisdiction over Turkmenistan, Mr. Gervais Moumou, and the Ambassador of Turkmenistan, H.E. Mr. Serdarmämmet Garajaýew. This signing ceremony marks a significant milestone in the bilateral relations between the two countries, paving the way for a new era of cooperation and mutual benefits. 

In a brief meeting after the ceremony, the Ambassadors discussed initiatives to promote tourism between their countries, including encouraging travel by Turkmen tourists to Seychelles and vice versa. This would facilitate cultural exchange and strengthen people-to-people connections. They agreed on the importance of enhancing cultural ties through events and exchanges, which would help both Seychelles and Turkmenistan preserve their cultural heritage and deepen their mutual understanding, thereby further solidifying their bilateral relationship.

The ceremony was attended by representatives from both Embassies.

President El-Sisi Receives President of Republic of Somalia

Today, President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received the President of the Republic of Somalia, Dr.Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who is on an official visit to Egypt for several days, at Ittihadia Palace, where an official reception ceremony was held and national anthems were played.

The two presidents held discussions, during which they confirmed the strength and solidity of the historical relations between Egypt and Somalia, as well as the mutual keenness to support them at various levels, and to build on the outcome of the Somali president’s visit to Egypt last January.

The Spokesman for the Presidency said President El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s position in support of the unity and sovereignty of Somalia over its lands, and rejecting any interference in its internal affairs.

The two presidents welcomed mutual steps taken by two countries to deepen bilateral cooperation, including the launch of direct flight between Cairo and Mogadishu, the opening of the Egyptian embassy in the Somali capital, Mogadishu, in addition to the signing, during the Somali president’s visit to Egypt, of a military cooperation protocol between the two countries.

The Somali president expressed his appreciation for Egypt’s continuous support for his country over the past decades, stressing Somalia’s keenness to further boost economic, security and political ties with Egypt in the coming period. He also expressed appreciation for the role of various Egyptian authorities in building the capacities of Somali cadres in various fields.

The meeting touched on various regional and international issues of common interest. Both sides agreed to intensify consultation and coordination in the coming period to continue working to establish security and stability in the Horn of Africa.

Following the talks, the two presidents witnessed the signing ceremony of the military cooperation protocol between the two countries, and held a joint press conference.

President Boakai Names Road Maintenance, Rehabilitation and Financing Committee

In an effort to achieve the objectives of the “Road” Pillar of the A.R.R.E.S.T. Agenda, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has appointed the Road Maintenance, Rehabilitation and Financing Committee.   

The Committee is expected to assess the challenges of road networks, engage partners, and identify resources including funding for the building, maintenance, and rehabilitation of roads in the country.  

Members of the Road Maintenance, Rehabilitation, and Financing Committee are:  

1. Honorable Jeremiah Kpan Koung, Vice President of the Republic of Liberia, Chairperson

 2. Ministry of Finance&Development Planning, Member 

3. Ministry of Public Works, Member   

4. Ministry of Agriculture, Member   

5. Ministry of State for Presidential Affairs, Member  

6. National Investment Commission, Member   

7. General Services Agency, Member   

8. Public Procurement&Concession Commission, Advisory Member 

9. ⁠ Advisor to the President on Infrastructural Development.  

The Committee is expected to begin work immediately and provide regular updates to the President.

President Boakai Dedicates 14tth Judicial Circuit Court Complex in Rivercess County

President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has dedicated the newly constructed 14tth Judicial Circuit Court Complex in Cestos City, Rivergee County.

The event was attended by a host of esteemed dignitaries, including members of the Honorable Legislature, Chief Justice Sie A Nyene G. Yuoh and members of the judiciary, members of the Cabinet, County Officials, Municipal Authorities of Cestos City, the media, and other distinguished guests.

In his address, President Boakai expressed the Government’s commitment to strengthening democracy, reinforcing the rule of law, and uplifting governance in the country.

The President emphasized the significance of the new Judicial Complex in decentralizing the means of governance and devolving power and authority to a broader segment of the population.

He also highlighted the Government’s A.R.R.E.S.T. Agenda, focusing on the rule of law and the coordination between the three branches of government.

He reiterated the Executive Branch’s dedication to working closely with the Judiciary Branch to empower and support the judicial system, emphasizing the importance of a just and equitable dispensation of justice within the realm of the rule of law.

The President also made a pitch for greater coordination, collaboration and cooperation among the three branches of government to address critical areas such as corruption, abuse of power, and travesty of justice.

The Liberian Chief Executive made a particular plea for a collective effort in sanitizing the nation and fostering a new mindset for nation building.

President Boakai concluded with a resounding call for unity and building trust of the Liberian people in the judicial system.

The dedication of the Rivercess County Judicial Complex signifies a meaningful step towards promoting justice, equality, and good governance, a core pillar of the A.R.R.E.S.T. Agenda.
