IFAD and AgDevCo sign $10 million loan agreement to mobilize blended financing for Africa’s next generation of agribusinesses

Kigali, Rwanda, 3 September 2026. The International Fund for Agricultural Development and AgDevCo Ventures Limited, a subsidiary of AgDevCo, signed a $10 million loan to address critical financing gaps facing early-stage agricultural enterprises across Africa. The investment aims to build more resilient and inclusive food systems while creating pathways for greater private investment in agribusinesses that are often overlooked by conventional lenders.

The investment brings together IFAD funding with long-term, risk-tolerant capital and technical assistance from AgDevCo to support early-stage agribusinesses operating in underserved market segments to scale up, improve productivity, expand market access, and strengthen environmental and social practices.

“Africa’s food systems need a broader range of financing solutions that match the realities of agricultural businesses at different stages of growth,” said Donal Brown, IFAD Associate Vice-President for Department of Country Operations. “Our partnership with AgDevCo demonstrates how blended finance can unlock investment for promising enterprises, strengthen rural economies and create opportunities for women, young people and small-scale farmers across the continent.”
