Former Ethiopian Somali Regional State Chief Administrator appears in court
Former Chief Administrator of Ethiopian Somali regional state, Abdi Mohammed Omer, and three other officials, who lost their immunity from prosecution last Sunday, appeared in court.
They appeared at the federal High Court 19th criminal bench on suspicion of direct involvement in human rights abuses in Jigjiga, the capital of the regional state, and its environs.
Abdi Mohamed Omer was arrested on last Monday at his home located around Atlas Hotel, in Addis Ababa, after he lost his immunity from prosecution.
One Ethiopian National killed in anti-immigrant violence in South Africa: MFA
One Ethiopian national was killed and another injured in the anti-immigrant violence in Soweto, South Africa, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia (MFA).
The injured Ethiopian is receiving medical treatment, the Ministry said.
Ethiopian embassy in Pretoria advised Ethiopian nationals who live in Soweto and its environs to take the necessary precaution.
The embassy further said it is working to ensure safety of Ethiopians in South Africa.
It also advised them to use telephone numbers 0123462110 and 0123462947 to get additional information from the embassy.
Ethiopian partners to launch Chad national carrier
Ethiopian Airlines (Ethiopian), announced that it has finalized agreements with the Government of Chad for the launch of Chad national carrier.
Ethiopian has a 49 percent stake in the joint venture while the Government of Chad retains 51 percent.
The new Chad national carrier is planned to go into operation as of October 1, 2018, according to a press release the airlines sent to FBC today.

The new Chad national carrier will serve as a strong hub in Central Africa availing domestic, regional and eventually international air connectivity to the major destinations in the Middle East, Europe and Asia. I wish to thank President Idriss Deby Itno, the Government of Chad and the stakeholders in the aviation sector in Chad for their strong support to the project.”
Through its multiple hubs strategy in Africa, Ethiopian currently operates hubs in Lomé (Togo) with ASKY Airlines and Malawian in Lilongwe (Malawi), while having the already acquired stakes in Zambia’s and Guinea’s national carriers and making preparations to launch Ethiopian Mozambique Airlines.
Ethiopian also this week signed a shareholding agreement with Zambia’s main development agency, Industrial Development Corporation (IDC), to relaunch the southern African country’s flag carrier at an initial cost of USD 30 million.
Ethiopian Airlines will own 45 percent of the Zambian airline, and Zambia 55 percent.
