By Eyasu Zekarias

The Israeli Embassy in Ethiopia in its recent statement regarding the sudden attackof Palestinian militant group “Hamas” on October 7, 2023, revealed that the move was nothing short of a terroristic attack and condemned the act.

Tomer Bar-Levi, the Deputy Ambassador of the Israeli Embassy in Ethiopia, said that, “Many were killed in the first attack of innocent people by the Hamas group, which are terrorists, on Simchat Torah, a Jewish holiday where thousands of Israelis are present.”

As the Deputy Ambassador pointed out, despite Israel having a high security establishment, a dialogue has been set up to find out how this act transpired.

Alelign Admasu, the ambassador of the Israeli embassy in Ethiopia, said in a statement that, “The two countries have a long history of friendship, and the people of Ethiopia should stand by their side against the act and call it a war against innocent people.”

On October 11, 2023, the Israeli Embassy, which issued a statement at its office in Addis Ababa, expressed its regret that this has happened in a situation where it is making great efforts to improve the economic condition of the Palestinians and called on the entire nation to understand the truth and be on their side.

Foreign Minister spokesman Ambassador Meles Alemu said in his weekly statement a few days ago that Ethiopia has not taken a different position on the Israel-Palestine issue than its previous position.
