France is set to strengthen its involvement in Ethiopia’s tourism sector, as announced during a recent visit to the National Museum by France’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Jean-Noël Barrot alongside Minister of Tourism, Salamawit Kassa. The announcement was made on November 30, 2024, by Jean-Noël Barrot, who outlined plans for the development of a Sustainable Heritage project.
The Sustainable Heritage initiative will receive support from France and will focus on transforming the Department of Paleontology and Prehistoric Archaeology into an art gallery. This renovation aims to enhance the cultural and educational offerings of the museum, further promoting Ethiopia’s rich historical heritage.
During the visit, Selamawit received ancient stone tools that were taken to France in the 1960s for research from the Melka Kunture World Heritage Site. This gesture signifies a deepening relationship between Ethiopia and France, highlighting ongoing collaboration between the two nations in the field of cultural heritage and tourism.
The projects being implemented with the support of the French Embassy and French experts are expected to create lasting ties between Ethiopia and France, fostering knowledge exchange and expertise in tourism and heritage management.
